KNOW THE ENEMY

We Are in a Cold War with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

In 1999, two People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Senior Colonels, Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui, published “Unrestricted Warfare“—a strategic treatise outlining how a weaker power (like China at the time) could defeat a superior adversary (the United States) without relying primarily on conventional or nuclear war.

The book argues that traditional military conflict is outdated in a globalized world. Victory requires unrestricted (or “beyond-limits”) warfare: blending military and non-military tools across every domain to achieve political dominance. Key avenues they highlight include:

  • Economic Warfare — Disrupting trade, markets, and resources
  • Cyber Warfare — Hacking networks, infrastructure, and systems
  • Information Warfare — Controlling narratives, media, and perception
  • Political Warfare — Subversion, influence operations, and division
  • Terrorist Warfare — Asymmetric attacks and proxy actions

The name “China” translates from Zhōngguó (中国), literally meaning “Middle Kingdom,” “Central Kingdom,” or “Central State.”

This reflects a deep historical and cultural self-image: China as the center of civilization, with surrounding nations viewed as peripheral or tributary states orbiting its superiority. This worldview has shaped centuries of Chinese strategic thinking—positioning the CCP’s actions as restoring rightful centrality on the global stage.

Understanding this unrestricted, multi-domain approach—and the enduring “Middle Kingdom” mindset—is essential to recognizing the CCP’s long-term strategy against the United States and the West.

COLD CIVIL WAR OF UNRESTRICTED WARFARE BY THE PROXY ARMIES OF THE CCP

Historically, defeating a powerful nation like the United States rarely happens through direct conquest alone. Success requires internal alliances and accomplices—citizens or institutions within the target country who serve as proxies, wittingly or unwittingly advancing the external power’s agenda. These form the CCP’s proxy armies in America’s ongoing Cold Civil War: a non-kinetic struggle of subversion, division, and influence to weaken and control the U.S. from within.

THE OBJECTIVE

The CCP does not seek to reduce America to rubble through outright destruction. That would eliminate the prize. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) consists of about 95 million members—less than 7% of China’s population—yet wields immense global influence.

CCP Proxy Armies

The CCP elite captures institutions and individuals through tactics like BGY (Blue-Gold-Yellow influence operations) and corporate mergers/elites. Examples include:

Stupid People (per Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s framework)

Those susceptible to brainwashing via false narratives from outlets like CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, CBS, NBC, and others. They absorb propaganda promoted by the above groups (teachers, unions, celebrities, activists), leading to Mass Formation psychosis.

Many remain passive (staying home, consuming media), while others become actively involved—participating in public demonstrations, often described as “mostly peaceful.”

Non-Involved

People that have a certain amount of awareness of what’s going on but do not have the curiosity to learn more, or people that are oblivious to what is going on. Sad, because world events will have an impact on their lives.

STUPIDITY

To understand the motives and destructive impact of the groups discussed earlier (useful idiots, mass formation followers, etc.), turn to Carlo M. Cipolla’s classic 1976 essay, The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity. As an economic historian, Cipolla classifies people into four behavioral categories based on outcomes—not IQ:

  • Intelligent (smart) — Actions benefit both themselves and others (win-win). They create net societal gain and contribute positively.
  • Bandits — Benefit themselves at the expense of others (win-lose). Classic exploiters: they redistribute wealth but don’t destroy it overall.
  • Helpless (hapless/naive) — Harm themselves while benefiting others (lose-win). Easily exploited; they give away value and end up poorer.
  • Stupid — Harm others and themselves (lose-lose). Cipolla’s Third Basic Law (the “golden law”): “A stupid person is one who causes losses to another person or group while himself deriving no gain—and even possibly incurring losses.”

Law #1: Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

Law #2: The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

Law #3: A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

Law #4: Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people infallibly turns out to be a costly mistake.

Law #5: A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person. A stupid person is more dangerous than a bandit.

German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi resistor. He spoke out against Hitler and was involved in the plot to assassinate him. Imprisoned in Flossenbürg concentration camp; executed by hanging in April 1945, just weeks before liberation.

In Letters and Papers from Prison, Bonhoeffer described stupidity as a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. He wrote: “Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force… Against stupidity we are defenseless.”

He further noted: “The power of the one needs the stupidity of the other,” highlighting how stupidity arises sociologically under oppressive structures, turning people into mindless enablers of evil.

In The Psychology of Totalitarianism, he explains mass formation (often called mass formation psychosis) as the psychological mechanism behind why intelligent people suddenly act “stupid” en masse. Under conditions of isolation, anxiety, lack of meaning, and free-floating frustration, society bonds around a single narrative and leader figure. Critical thinking collapses; dissent becomes unthinkable. Desmet states: “Mass formation is, in essence, a kind of group hypnosis that destroys individuals’ ethical self-awareness and robs them of their ability to think critically.” He adds: “What one thinks does not matter; what counts is that people think it together. COLOR REVOLUTION planning in the United States of America has been ongoing for some time. The history of COLOR REVOLUTION and its evolution as a weapon to take over the United States of America will be described in the following pages.

The concept revolves around nonviolent regime change, heavily influenced by Gene Sharp’s book From Dictatorship to Democracy (1993). Gene Sharp, an American political scientist, outlined strategies for overthrowing authoritarian governments through organized civil resistance rather than armed force. Written in 30 different languages, He detailed 198 specific nonviolent tactics (like protests, boycotts, strikes, and symbolic actions) based on historical patterns and the idea that a regime’s power depends on the consent and obedience of the population—if that consent is withdrawn en masse, the regime collapses. Former Lithuanian Defense Minister Audrius Butkevičius famously praised Sharp’s work in his book on civilian-based defense, saying he’d “rather have this book than the atomic bomb,” highlighting its perceived power as a tool for liberation.

A Color Revolution refers to a modern pattern of mass, largely nonviolent uprisings aimed at toppling governments, often triggered by disputed elections. The term “color” comes from the movements adopting symbolic colors, flags, or brands (e.g., Orange Revolution in Ukraine, Rose in Georgia, Green in Iran, Velvet in Armenia.

In essence, the text portrays Color Revolutions as a sophisticated, repeatable playbook for mass movements to “overwhelm and defy” governments—often starting around elections—using nonviolent tactics to force regime change, with external backing playing a role in many cases. COLOR REVOLUTION USA 2020 / TRANSITION INTEGRITY PROJECT (TIP)

Transition Integrity Project (TIP) did conduct a war game (or scenario exercise) that included a hypothetical where Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election.

The TIP ran a series of table-top exercises (often described as “war games” or “matrix games”) in June 2020, involving bipartisan participants to simulate potential disruptions to the election and transition. They explicitly tested four main scenarios, one of which assumed a clear Trump victory:

  • In that scenario (often labeled “Game Three: Clear Trump Win” in reports and coverage), Trump won the Electoral College comfortably (e.g., 286–252) but lost the popular vote significantly (e.g., 52%–47% for Biden, mirroring a reverse of 2016).

Democratic Party’s Color Revolution: A Strategic Assessment Through 2028

Efforts over the past six months have focused on local outreach and organizing, culminating in several “national days of action.” These protests have been symbolic and mostly toothless, but these groups have demonstrated an ability to sustain a national protest movement. At least two protests have mobilized roughly three million participants, with others numbering in the hundreds of thousands. This is an important metric, and we’ll come back to it later.

Broadly, this strategy is broken up into three phases: Protest > Resistance > Revolution.

Phase 1: Protest (You Are Here)

Phase 1 exhibits relatively low-risk actions such as protests at government buildings and other demonstrations against symbols of power. These pose no threat to a government, but are used to gauge popular support for the opposition movement, build legitimacy for passive and active resistance, and boost the confidence of actors for larger demonstrations in the future.

Phase 2: Selective Resistance (2025–2026)

After support and legitimacy are gained through symbolic protests, an organized resistance movement can begin engaging in selective political defiance. These actions include civil disobedience such as sit-ins and occupations, boycotts, and sustained, disruptive demonstrations that garner media attention, build support, and cause embarrassment for the authorities, often leading to government overreaction (which reinforces the Color Revolution narrative).

Phase 3: Mass Resistance (2027–2028)

When Selective Resistance achieves active support from a substantial portion of society (typically 15-30% or more), a resistance movement can begin coordinated, targeted, and nonviolent strategic action like national strikes and boycotts, large scale disruption to economic activity and civil society, and other forms of mass political defiance designed to damage a government’s legitimacy, authority, and capacity.

Revolution (2028–2029+)

Revolution — the active campaign to oust a leader from power — is not a foregone conclusion. Historically, failed or contested elections are the primary trigger for these Color Revolutions, which is to say that a revolution is much more difficult to execute following a clean and uncontested election. This is because of the perception of legitimacy, or the recognized right of a leader to be in power.

Leaders with weak claims of legitimacy are at higher risk, whereas those with firm legitimacy — like the 2024 election, where President Donald Trump won both the electoral college and popular vote — are virtually unassailable.

This is important because a Color Revolution movement actually needs a contested or highly unpopular outcome. Roughly 75% of all Color Revolutions over the past 25 years have coincided with disputed election results.

Otherwise, a resistance movement is left to de-legitimize a leader through other means, namely:

  • Media narratives and information operations
  • Defections of elites
  • Institutional noncooperation
  • International pressure

The methods above, when combined with mass resistance, are designed to weaken the “pillars of support” that keep a government functioning. This is key to the anti-Trump resistance strategy. These groups often cite two pieces of Color Revolution doctrine: The Six Pillars and the 3.5% Rule.

The Six Pillars

Noncooperation, also referred to as “strategic noncooperation” is the core of the strategy — you can erode a government’s legitimacy by reducing society’s cooperation with it.

The Six Pillars describe the underlying foundations that keep a government functioning. Taken from the training slides , they are: Business, Labor, Faith, Education, Civil Service, and Military/Police. A quote from Gene Sharp — the godfather of Color Revolutions — will explain:

“By themselves, rulers cannot collect taxes, enforce repressive laws and regulations, keep trains running on time, prepare national budgets, direct traffic, manage ports, print money, repair roads, keep markets supplied with food, make steel, build rockets, train the police and army, issue postage stamps or even milk a cow. People provide these services… If people would stop providing these skills, the ruler could not rule.”

In short, a government — a dictator, an autocracy, even a legitimately elected president — depends on these lines of support to function. When a resistance movement convinces elements of these pillars to withdraw their support, the regime collapses.

The 3.5% Rule

In her book, Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict, researcher and strategist Erica Chenoweth claims that no regime has survived a resistance campaign that includes 3.5% of a country.

In other words, a study of over 300 violent and nonviolent resistance campaigns finds that every campaign that achieved the active and sustained participation of just 3.5% of the population succeeded in toppling a government.

So to put this into perspective: the anti-Trump resistance needs 3.5% of the United States, or roughly 12 million people, to participate. In two national days of protests, we’ve seen mobilizations of around three million protesters, or roughly 25% of what’s needed to achieve the 3.5% Rule.

Near-Term Assessment (2025-2026)

Anti-Trump protests have so far not been politically significant, but organizers have made substantial progress from a lackluster start. Inauguration Day 2025 protests were roughly a third — maybe as large as one-half — of the 2017 Inauguration Day protests. Since then, organizers have grown the movement rapidly, surpassing the previous largest single-day protest mobilization of the Trump era.

While progress had been steady, the movement does appear to have plateaued. Recent national days of protest have been muted (did you even hear about the last one on the news?), and this in the summer months when mobilizing capacity is at its highest. The lack of growth is a limiting factor, but it’s not a sign of weakness. The ability to repeatedly mobilize protesters in the low millions is indicative of a sustained protest movement able to transition into organized resistance.

This mid-decade redistricting plan by Texas, Ohio, and possibly other Red and Blue states, will likely encourage wider protest mobilization. Meanwhile, escalation from protest (Phase 1) into organized resistance (Phase 2) is almost certain if redistricting enables Republicans to keep a House majority after the 2026 midterms.

In the interim, anti-Trump organizers will likely spend the next roughly 14 months developing the human networks, communications infrastructure, and training/education to help Democrats win back the House.

Escalation after the midterms is a certainty, either way. If Dems break the Trump trifecta by regaining a House majority, resistance groups will gain legitimacy and use the “inside-outside” strategy to undermine the legitimacy, authority, and capacity of the Trump administration. If Republicans keep the House majority, especially through mid-decade redistricting, resistance groups will have the narrative they need to escalate through 2028. Pending anything else, it’s going to be a disruptive few years.

THE TAKEAWAY

Although these two groups failed in their Recalls, they are not going away. All these activists are of like mind (Mass Formation, STUPID PEOPLE). You will see them again and again, 2026 ,2027, 2028 and beyond. They are just like the Stupid People of the Sixties they never go away.
